My Teaching Philosophy

Be a lifelong learner and teach lifelong learning.

As a current student of Art Education, my teaching philosophy is still in its infancy. But as of right now I believe a few things to be true. For example, the visual arts are a language; an extension of humankind's communication abilities. The possibilities of what to say, how to say it, and who to so say it to are boundless. As an Art Educator I hope to help students learn this language. I also believe that one of the most empowering things I can help foster in students is learning to learn. Because life is intersected and isn't broken up into content areas or subject matter, an effective way to learn to learn is through cross-curricular lessons and projects where students can make meaningful connections across subjects. I really look forward to working with educators from other content areas to develop lesson plans in which students can make broader connections between their experiences, their sense of self, and the world around them.
